There is something about photographing an athlete in their element that never gets old. When Colton came in for his senior session, he did not just show up with a football. He showed up with a purpose. Colton is a kicker with college football in his future, and from the first frame to the last, that drive was written all over him.
The Session Story
We headed out to his school's football field, and the moment we got there, the energy shifted. Colton was not the kind of athlete who needed a warm-up period. He arrived locked in and ready, and that translated immediately into the images.
We opened with portraits — Colton standing on the field he has called home, jersey on, looking like exactly what he is: a football player heading somewhere. The setting gave us natural lines, open sky, and all the context a frame could need. Starting there let him settle in, find his footing, and get comfortable in front of the camera before we ramped things up.
From there we moved into the action. Colton mid-kick, follow-through, full extension. There is a particular kind of power in a kicker's motion that most people do not fully appreciate until they see it stopped in a frame. We chased that feeling across multiple angles, letting him move naturally while I worked around him to find the most dynamic compositions.
We finished by slowing things all the way down for the detail work. Cleats in the grass. Laces up close. The quiet, specific things that tell the story of a career in the making. These are the frames that tend to hit hardest when athletes look back years from now.

The Athlete Shows Up Either Way
Colton did not come in his full uniform. He kept it casual — shorts, his football, and that field he knows better than most people know their own backyard. And honestly? That still told the story.
Here is what I have learned shooting athletes: the identity does not live in the jersey. It lives in the way they carry themselves. The way Colton set up for a kick, the focus that came over his face mid-motion, the ease he had on that field — none of that required pads or a uniform to come through in the images. You could look at any frame from this session and know exactly who he is and what he does.
That said, there is a real difference between a casual senior session and a full athlete branding experience. When athletes come in with their uniform, their gear, and a clear vision for how they want to be seen, the images do additional work. They live on recruiting profiles. They show up on social media in a way that signals intention. They become part of how a coach or recruiter forms a first impression.
Colton's session captured him authentically. A full branding session captures that and layers in the visual identity that follows an athlete into their next chapter. Both have a place. And both start with showing up.
What to Expect from an Athlete Session at S Five Vision Media
If you are a student athlete in Jefferson County or Southern Wisconsin thinking about a session, here is what the process looks like.
It starts before we ever pick up a camera. We do a planning session together to talk through your sport, your goals, what you want these images to say about you, and what you want to walk away with. That conversation shapes everything from location scouting to shot list.
On session day, you bring your gear: your uniform, your equipment, anything that is part of your sport's story. I handle everything else — directing, posing, and working the environment so your personality and athletic identity both come through. Sessions are designed to feel natural, not stiff. You are an athlete. We shoot you like one.
The result is a gallery of images that work on your recruiting profile, your social media, your senior announcement, and anywhere else you want to show up and be taken seriously.
If you are a senior athlete ready to invest in images that match the work you have put in, I would love to hear from you.

A Note for Colton
Colton, it was an honor to document this season of your life. The way you showed up to this session said everything about how you show up on the field. Go get it.
