There's a point in every creative business where you have to make a choice: stay comfortable with what's already working, or invest in what could make it even better. I've always chosen the second option, and that's exactly why I'm heading to St. Louis this April for Shutterfest 2026.

What Is Shutterfest?

Shutterfest is one of the most respected photography conferences in the country, held annually at the Union Station Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri. It brings together hundreds of photographers from across the United States for several days of hands-on education, live shooting demonstrations, business strategy sessions, and genuine community.

What sets Shutterfest apart from other conferences is the caliber of the instructors and the depth of the content. This isn't a surface-level event. Photographers come here to get better at their craft, grow their businesses, and learn from people who are doing the work at the highest level. Whether you shoot seniors, athletes, families, or weddings, there's something at Shutterfest that will push you forward.

It's also a place where the photography community shows up for each other in a really meaningful way. The connections made in those hallways and classrooms are just as valuable as the sessions themselves.

What I'm Taking Away From This

One of the things I'm most excited about is learning directly from photographers who are operating at the highest level. This year, I'll be learning from Steve Sanders, the official photographer of the Kansas City Chiefs. Getting to sit in a room and absorb how someone who works at that level of athlete branding, storytelling, and capturing performance is not something you find in a YouTube tutorial.

I'm also going deep on senior portrait work, business growth, and the art of building a visual brand that actually does something for the person in front of the camera. Every session I shoot is someone's story. I want to keep getting better at telling it.

What This Means for YOU

Here's what I want you to know: every time I invest in my education, it flows directly into your session experience.

The new posing techniques I pick up show up in how I direct you on set. The conversations I have with other photographers about what makes an image truly stop someone mid-scroll shape how I plan your shoot. The athlete branding strategies I learn from photographers who work with professional teams come home with me to Jefferson County and Southern Wisconsin.

When you book a session with S Five Vision Media, you're not just booking a photographer. You're getting someone who is constantly learning, evolving, and refusing to settle for "good enough."

Why This Matters Right Now

The photography industry is changing fast. AI, social media shifts, new platforms, new expectations from clients. The photographers who stay ahead are the ones who keep showing up, keep learning, and keep investing. I take that responsibility seriously.

I left a comfortable career to build this business from the ground up because I believed in what I could offer this community. Attending events like Shutterfest is part of that same commitment. It's the promise I made when I launched S Five Vision Media, and it's one I intend to keep.

What's Next

I'll be sharing content from the conference in real time, including behind-the-scenes moments, things I'm learning, and probably a few "you won't believe what just happened" Stories from the road. Follow along on Instagram and Facebook so you don't miss any of it.

And if you've been thinking about booking a senior portrait session or athlete branding shoot this year, now is a great time to get on the calendar. I'm coming back from St. Louis fired up and ready to create something incredible with you.

Let's build something worth looking at.
